Shepherd’s Purse Theatre Company is Tyalgum’s multi award winning theatre company, presenting it’s distinctive annual midwinter Shakespeare production at Flutterbies Cottage Cafe as an immersive Dinner Theatre evening.

Founded in 2015, the company has become known for it’s unique Shakespeare productions combining theatre, live music and dining, bringing together professional artists with a dedicated local and regional ensemble.

Past productions include A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Twelfth Night, Much Ado About Nothing, As You Like It, The Taming of the Shrew, Shakespeare In Love, The Tempest, The Comedy Of Errors.

As a result of the devastating floods that hit the Northern Rivers in 2022, cutting off the town’s main access - Tyalgum Road - Shepherds Purse found a way to boost local business and lift community spirits by gaining the rights for ‘Shakespeare In Love’, based on the Oscar winning film. This was staged at Flutterbies Cottage Cafe over three incredible nights in July 2023, and became the NSW Premiere production and the Australian Community Theatre premiere. With a cast of over 30 actors, musicians and choir singers, the production morphed into a grand community event, which went on to receive rave reviews in Stage Whispers.

RECOGNITION

Shepherd’s Purse has received significant regional and industry recognition, including 13 nominations at the Gold Palm Theatre Awards, winning Platinum Palm Award for Outstanding Service to the Theatrical Community, and Best Costumes for ‘Shakespeare In Love’. That same production received the Tweed Shire Community Event of the Year Award, and more recently the Company has received multiple BroadwayWorld Australia Award wins.

In 2024, Shepherd’s Purse received the NSW Government Community Service Award for it’s outstanding contritbution to the arts and cultural life of the region - the only arts organisation to have received the award.
